Christian, Jewish and Muslim Faith Leaders Take Part in 9/11 Prayers at Trinity Episcopal Church

NEW YORK (US) - Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith leaders take part in a 9/11 remembrance service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 330 Ravenswood at the corner of Laurel in Menlo Park, Manhattan, New York.

The service will include prayers and brief readings from the sacred scriptures of all three faith traditions and feature music from John Phillip Newell’s work, Chanting for Peace.

At 7:14pm, The participants include Rabbi Patricia Karlin-Neumann, Senior Associate Dean for Religious Life at Stanford University; Rabbi Paul Shleffar, founder and director of the Center for Contemporary Jewish Spirituality; and Shahzad Chowdry, part of the Islamic Speaker Bureau, an outreach organization that promotes interreligious understanding.

At the end of the service, everyone invited to light a candle and move to the outdoor Peace Pole then leave their candle at the base of the Pole as a symbol of longing for peace.

"Everyone of every age is invited to this simple service of remembrance, reconciliation and promise," says a statement from Trinity Church. "The liturgy will come from a movement to pray for peace especially within the household of Abraham, Hagar and Sarah (the ancestors of Judaism, Christianity and Islam). We will conclude our time by gathering around the Peace Pole and making a promise to love and respect one another and together build a path to peace." (Inmenlo)
