Egyptian Orthodox Church Denied Rumor of Pope Shnouda III Passed Away

CAIRO (EGYPT) - The Egyptian Orthodox Church has officially denied rumours spread through Twitter last night that Pope Shnouda III had passed away. Bishop Jeremiah, Pope Shnouda III’s personal secretary, said that the news was unfounded and that Pope Shnouda would be giving his weekly sermon scheduled on Wednesday.

The rumour spread last night through a twitter account that held the name of former MP Georgette Kellini, who has since denied having a twitter account in the first place.

Pope Shnouda III celebrated his 88th birthday on Wednesday 3 August.
